La Selva
The gateway to the Costa Brava, just 1 hour by car from Barcelona, it is the closest and most affordable option for those who arrive on the Costa Brava from Barcelona. The region of La Selva encompasses the municipalities of Blanes, Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar, Blanes being the only one with a marina; however, the boat-taxi services will also allow you to embark and disembark in Lloret or Tossa.
Blanes is a renowned holiday destination, with a fantastic promenade full of excellent restaurants and options for having a good time. Renting a sailboat in Blanes is the perfect option to spend a great day and to discover the coast heading north.
If you choose a Day Charter from Blanes, we will have time to navigate the entire coastline until we reach Sant Feliu de Guíxols and return, seeing the famous beaches of Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar
Tossa de Mar is well known for its medieval citadel and is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Catalonia. From the sea, its spectacular walled enclosure with its castle and its imposing lighthouse at the top of Cap de Tossa can be perfectly observed.
Observing this stretch of coast from the sailboat is already a joy and having passed Tossa, we find its three best coves: Cala Pola, Cala Giverola and Cala Futadera.
Cala Giverola
Cala Pola is a narrow and deep cove, with crystal-clear waters full of fish, which pile up in the shade of the sailboat, patiently waiting for food to fall on them.
Right next door, Cala Giverola is more spacious, offers good shelter and has buoys and a boat-taxi service during the high season, which allows you to leave the sailboat and go ashore to eat good rice in its excellent restaurant.
Finally, we find Cala Futadera, a beautiful cove with turquoise waters that is difficult to access by land, being the only one that faces north east and offers excellent protection from the Garbí.
Baix Empordà
The Baix Empordà begins in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, and also encompasses the municipalities with a marina of Platja d’Aro, Palamós and L’Estartit.
Renting a sailboat in Sant Feliu de Guíxols or Platja d’Aro can be a similar experience, as their ports are not far from each other; however, they are peoples with a different spirit; Sant Feliu de Guíxols is a town with a great seafaring tradition and the soul of a corsair, while Platja d’Aro is more modern, crowded and is usually the destination of a somewhat younger and party-loving public.
Here is the beach of Sant Pol, usually visited by families, with rock margins and good seabeds to explore snorkeling or paddle surfing.
Further north, having passed the port of Palamós, are the coves of La Fosca and El Castell, the latter being a semi-virgin anchorage covered by the north wind, a good option for jumping into the water to cool off.
As we head north, and unknown to many, we come across Les Formigues, a series of islets close to the coast, to which we should pay close attention. Behind them, the picturesque towns of Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc.
At the San Sebastián lighthouse we close the course to contemplate the beautiful cliffs that lead us to Tamariu. Next, we find the surprising Aiguablava, Sa Tuna and Sa Riera, belonging to Begur, which are totally recommended stops.
In the background, behind Pals beach, you can see l’Estartit, a fishing village, currently with a great offer and atmosphere, with its famous Medes Islands in front. The Medes Islands are an archipelago of 7 islands of great importance and are an integral nature reserve where anchoring is prohibited. They have buoys and it is a must stop to jump into the water and observe many large fish.

In l’Alt Empordà, we find the port towns of L’Escala, Roses, Cadaqués and Port de la Selva.
Renting a sailboat in L’Escala allows two different options, sailing south to Begur passing through Cala Montgó and Les Medes or sailing north, crossing the Golf de Roses towards Cadaqués and Cap de Creus.
Renting a sailboat in Roses is the most recommended and closest option if you want to visit only the Cap de Creus. Leaving the port, we find the beaches of Canyelles and l’Almadrava, which we usually pass by. We make our first stop with bath included in the coves of Murtra or Rostella. We visited the spectacular Montjoi, renowned for locating El Bulli, which for several years was considered the best restaurant in the world.
Continuing with our navigation towards the north, we find the imposing Cap Norfeu, behind which the beautiful Jóncols, a quiet and charming corner, which has a hotel restaurant and a buoy field. Spending a night at anchor in Cala Jóncols is more than recommended if the weather allows it.

Sailing on a sailboat through Cadaqués is sailing through one of the most famous bays in the Mediterranean; It is the bay of a town visited, photographed and painted by thousands of artists and tourists who come here every year. Despite not having a port, it is possible to embark and disembark as it also has buoys and a boat-taxi service.
For many, Cadaqués is the most beautiful town in Catalonia, even in Spain. With difficult access by road, the sea was always its natural means of communication and this has allowed it to develop in a very unique way; it can be imagined as if it were an island on the Costa Brava.
A few minutes sailing by sailboat we come across Portlligat, a small fishing port, world famous for being the place chosen by Salvador Dalí to live since the end of the 40s. Thanks to the field of buoys and if you have more than one day, It is practically obligatory to spend the night in the waters of Portlligat and enjoy its impressive atmosphere, its calm waters and go out to wander through Cadaqués.
Leaving Cadaqués and Portlligat, we find the wild natural park of Cap de Creus, a natural wonder full of coves, which extends to the next town: Port de la Selva. The end of Cap de Creus coincides with the easternmost limit of the Iberian Peninsula and at its highest point, we find its amazing lighthouse.
Sailing on a sailboat around Cap de Creus is a rich and abundant experience. We can say that it is the most valuable jewel of the Catalan coast. Being a natural park, urban exploitation is not allowed and its numerous virgin coves make it the perfect paradise to rent a boat. Its landscape is wild and mystical, and it is worth seeing the sunset and spending the night in one of its best coves: Guillola, Culip, Tavallera or Talabre.
